Health care administrators manage and support the business side of a health care facility. Their roles vary from general administration to specialized department support in the areas of finance, health information, human resources, and marketing. The health care administrator must possess strong leadership and managerial skills and be able to manage multiple projects.
Medical and health service managers work in all medical related facilities including hospitals, physician offices, nursing and residential care facilities, outpatient care centers and insurance companies.
Health Care Administration Program Description
The Health Care Administration Associate of Applied Science online degree program at Pima Medical Institute features courses that allow you to sharpen your management skills by studying business communications, psychology, management and finance. Graduates gain a cutting edge advantage by learning the essential business functions of a medical office or health services organization.
This program is designed as an online associate degree completion program. Learning online gives you the flexibility to continue your education while you gain valuable job experience in your field. To enroll in the program, students must have completed 27 credits with a grade of C or better (12 credits in HCA). Graduates of the Pima's Medical Assistant, Coding and Billing or Pharmacy Technician program automatically qualify for this program. Medical Administrative Assistant graduates who have worked in their field for a minimum of 1,000 hours may qualify with credit for life experience.

Employment of medical and health service managers is expected to grow faster than average. Job opportunities should be good especially for applicants with work experience in the health care field and strong business and management skills. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of medical and health service managers is expected to grow faster than average for all occupations from 2008-2018.
