RAD STUDENT AT PIMA MEDICAL INSTITUTE WINS SCHOLARSHIP
Denver, CO – Uri Khomko Named Recipient of Exempla Healthcare Nursing Scholarship
Khomko, a radiography student at Pima Medical Institute, 1701 W. 72nd Ave, Suite 130 in Denver received the Exempla Healthcare Nursing scholarship. The $5,000 award is being awarded in honor of Doreen Sebring, one of Exempla’s outstanding nurses at Saint Joseph Hospital.
Applicants were judged on their work ethic, maturity, initiative, general knowledge of nursing, as well as specific incidents where the student was documented to have had a positive effect on either a patient or coworker. Khomko, is currently in his final semester at PMI.
“Uri has been a hard-working and exceptional student who excels in our radiography program, even though English is not his first language,” said Sue Anderson, campus director for the career college. “We are all very proud of him and we are confident that he is well on his way to a successful career”.
Radiography is one of the Top 20 career fields that will be most in demand through 2010 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Due to the expanding population of the elderly, as well as the increased use of innovative medical technology for intensive diagnosis and treatment, the demand for these jobs is expected to increase for 50 years.
The 96-week Radiography program includes 2800 hours of training. Graduates of this program receive an Associate of Occupational Studies degree and are eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists examination for certification.
